Palvi’s PPA Masterbatches is a new generation, highly technical product, suitable for controlling and eliminating the problem of Melt Fracture or Shark Skin Effect, during the process of LLDPE / LDPE / HM – HDPE by extrusion process.

Polymer Process Aid (PPA) Masterbatches are specifically designed to enhance extrusion ability of plastics leading to productivity and / or quality improvement.

These Masterbatches are based on Fluoropolymers and are widely recommended for improving the processability of polymers at higher shear rates. These are formulated to form a microscopic dispersed phase within the polymer carrier. During processing the fluoropolymer gets coated on the walls of the extruder and die. This reduces the extuder backpressure. To achieve the coating in a reasonable time the process aid masterbatch is typically added at 1% until the beneficial effects are seen. After this the addition rate can be reduced to 0.5% down to even 0.25% as long as the effect continues to be evident. A small addition must be maintained throughout the extrusion run.

Normally there is a common practice to process at higher temperatures to get maximum output which causes degradation, die deposition and reduction in mechanical properties. By adding PPA MB, processing is possible at lower temperature with higher output without compromising the mechanical properties.

Features:

• Uv radiation (40-440 nm) is quite damaging to plastic surface & by photodegradation & then by oxidation the chalking of surface starts & polymer loose color value & mechanical properties.

• Uv masterbatches contains uv inhibitors to protect plastic by absorbing harmful wavelength or interfering with the free radical formation of the polymer molecule from uv exposure.
• Hal type of uv absorbers are used in conc. Of 10%-20% in various polymers like pe/pp/pet/pbt/san/pc & ldr depends upon protection duration & may vary from 1%-3%.
• Major application areas for uv mb are green house film , packaging films , household items, furniture, auto components, compounding & roto moulded products.

Other details:

• Palvi clarifier mb for haze reduction or to improve clarity is based on third generation sorbitol derivative (like millad 3988) & used in pp photopolymer as well as in pp random copolymer.
• Clarifiers promote nucleation throughout polymer melt & the spherulites that are created are small enogh to allow light waves to pass without scattering them & bringing transparency in pp.
• Clarifier masterbatches improves cycle time, higher hdt, flexural modulus, stiffness & impact strength in pp. It also promotes faster crystallization.
• Palvi clarifiers are having 10% active content & are as per food safety regulation acts. Used at ldr 1.5%-3% depending on part thickness & process employed.
• Clarifier masterbatches are used for pp films used in packaging, pp food & storage containers ,blow moulded bottles & also injection moulded parts.
